craigslist is one of the most popular classified sites and can be a powerful tool for getting search engines to notice your site and send you traffic.
In 1995 craigslist.org was born: a free, down-to-earth and uncensored bulletin board that revolutionized the ease and speed with which people could communicate, exchange goods and services, and create community. Primarily focusing on housing, jobs, items for sale and personal ads, the site soon became a hub for San Francisco's wired community.
By 2003, craigslist has become big. Really big. Over 1/3 of all Bay Area internet users utilize craigslist on a regular basis. Outside of the Bay Area, craigslist has spread to 31 cities across the globe, with no sign of slowing. In San Francisco alone, the site receives over 23,000 posts daily, with page views close to 29 million daily. With no advertising, no commercialization and only word-of-mouth promotion, craigslist has become a phenomenon.
In August of 2004, eBay acquired 25% of the equity in craigslist from a former shareholder.
Presently, there are now 450 craigslist sites in all 50 US states, and over 50 countries.
More than 30 million each month use craigslist including more than 25 million in the US alone.
And it's still free

Among the usual Terms of Use of craiglist for free classifieds, these two conditions are related to your Internet business that you must pay special attention to.
You cannot post classified ads that constitutes or contains "affiliate marketing," "link referral code," "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or unsolicited commercial advertisement; and
craigslist permits you to display on your website, or create a hyperlink on your website to, individual postings on the Service so long as such use is for noncommercial and/or news reporting purposes only (e.g., for use in personal web blogs or personal online media). If the total number of such postings displayed or linked to on your website exceeds one hundred (100) postings, your use will be presumed to be in violation of the TOU, absent express permission granted by craigslist to do so. You may also create a hyperlink to the home page of craigslist sites so long as the link does not portray craigslist, its employees, or its affiliates in a false, misleading, derogatory, or otherwise offensive manner.

Make Use Of craigslist To Drive Traffic To Your Websites
* Open an account with your e-mail address.
* Read the Terms of Use carefully. The two important ones are
mentioned above. They’re easy to understand. Don't break the rules
as this is a very popular site and you want to get traffic from here.
* Select carefully the "category" of ads at the site because the
community is self-moderating and can flagged your ads if they think
they’re spam.
* Select one of the popular areas and post a 7-day ad. Your main goal
is get search engines to ind your websites.
* You can start off with the San Francisco Bay area first, since it’s one
of the most popular areas search engines love to go.
* Prepare several versions of the same ad for different cities (Important
rule: you may post to one category and in one city, no more often
than about every 48 hours.)
*Make your ads as professional as possible (Remember your SFI
prepared text ads?). No hype! No hard selling! Let the community
accepts them.
* Ads at Craigslist are "copy" like short articles. So use the same
guidelines about how to write your articles for your ads. Here’s an
example:

How often can I post?
Y ou may post to one category and in one city, no more often than about every 48 hours.
If you are submitting a post that is similar to another currently active post of yours on the site, you will get a blocked message. Removing the active post will allow you to post the new ad, unless the active post is less than 48 hours old.
If you've lost the email that allows you to manage/remove your post, you can have it resent here: http://www.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/resend.
Can I add HTML tags or URLs in my posting?
Traditional processing, no HTML:
If you include a URL in the text, make sure you also include the http:// in front of the URL or our system will not recognize it, and will not make it an active link.
You can use HTML in the posting body. If you want, you can use HTML sparingly. We don't try to wrap HTML around your URLs if we see HTML tags including <a>, <li>, <p>. We just pass through your HTML unchanged.
Please use only the HTML you'd use in the <body> of a document, no <title> or anything like that. We can't support JavaScript, applets, Flash, or other embedded non-HTML content.
* Note: If you use HTML in any part of your posting you must use it throughout the entire body of your posting.
